Unit 3.1 What Makes Us Famous

My 3rd graders have been busy with our first unit, What Makes Us Famous.  They read the Roberto Clemente Story, and made a timeline where they organized the story events.  We studied fiction and nonfiction, literary genres, and parts of a book/informational text. Currently, they are learning about the sense, how to make sentences, and transitions.

2nd Grade Unit 2.2 Where Are We

2nd graders have started with unit 2.2 Where are we.  They are learning new vocabulary words related to landforms and identifying these on a map of our island.

After reading the story "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle, students did a foldable activity where they drew pictures of the story organization Beginning, Middle, and End.

Through the story, they learned about the four seasons.  They did an accordion foldable showing what happens in each season.  They really loved and enjoyed this activity!

Recently, we've begun to read the story "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" by Laura Joffe Numeroff.  The kids learned and practiced the vocabulary words.  They also learned about context clues.  Here's a cute foldable they did using the vocabulary words from the story.

2nd Grade Unit 2.1 Bilingual and Proud

2nd graders have been busy learning about personal information, greetings, introductions, farewells, cognates and false cognates as part of the unit Bilingual and Proud.  They also met Maria and Pepito (puppets), and had lots of fun doing dialogues with them.

Kinder Unit K.1 About Me

In the beginning of the school year, my Kinders just looked at me with a blank face.  They knew absolutely no English, and one of them giggled as soon as I said "Good morning".  After 2 school months, they are able to ask permission to go to the bathroom/drink water in English, and participate actively in the routine and class.  During these past months they've been learning about the concept boy/girl, primary colors, secondary colors, basic commands.  They really enjoy the class, especially the songs we sing.  Here are some activities they've done.
